Only Courageous Politicians Can Join ADC, Says Tambuwal

Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has called on courageous politicians committed to public service to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), emphasizing that only those acting for the people and not personal gain should consider switching allegiance. He made the statement on Wednesday during a reception for Isa Salihu Kalenjeni, the immediate past Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, who recently resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the ADC. Tambuwal praised Kalenjeni’s decision as a bold step and a true sacrifice, highlighting his unconditional commitment to the ADC’s ideals.

Tambuwal urged other politicians who believe they are serving the public interest to openly align with the ADC, even in the face of pressure or intimidation. “Anyone who believes that what he is doing is for the people and for the sake of God, not for personal gain, should have the courage to leave any political party and join the ADC,” he said. He stressed that the ADC is not just a political platform but a movement for genuine change, built on integrity and public service.

The former governor accused the APC of using intimidation tactics against politicians considering defection to the ADC. He claimed the ruling party is also actively working to create divisions within the opposition, particularly targeting the ADC. According to Tambuwal, the APC now views the ADC as its most serious political threat, a sign that the opposition party is gaining momentum and credibility.

Tambuwal also criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration over the worsening security situation across Nigeria. He noted that many Nigerians have become disillusioned with the APC due to the persistent insecurity, which has affected lives and livelihoods nationwide. He argued that this growing dissatisfaction creates an opportunity for parties like the ADC to offer real alternatives and solutions.

Kalenjeni’s transition from APC to ADC was described by Tambuwal as a clear demonstration of moral courage and political conviction. The former council chairman stepped down from his position without seeking any personal benefit or condition, a move Tambuwal said reflects the ADC’s core values. His decision, Tambuwal added, sends a strong message to other public servants and politicians about the importance of standing for what is right, even when it is difficult.

As the ADC continues to attract new members, particularly from the APC, the party is positioning itself as a credible alternative in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape. The growing number of defections suggests a shift in political sentiment, with more Nigerians seeking parties that prioritize national interest over personal or party gain. This development could have significant implications for upcoming elections and the future direction of Nigerian politics.
