Military sources confirmed that troops from Sector 1, in coordination with Benue State Civil Protection Guards, responded swiftly after receiving a distress call at 8:30 a.m. However, the attackers had already fled the scene by the time security forces arrived.

Initial assessments revealed that one resident was killed during the assault, while multiple houses were set ablaze by the assailants. The destruction caused significant property damage and left many families displaced. The body of the victim was later taken by family members for burial in accordance with local customs, as authorities continue to investigate the incident. Military authorities have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack. They emphasized that intelligence gathering and surveillance operations are being intensified to track down the perpetrators.

In response to the incident, security presence in Mbasa and surrounding communities has been significantly strengthened. Additional patrols and checkpoints have been established to deter further attacks and reassure residents. The military also urged civilians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies. Community leaders have called for unity and cooperation with security forces to maintain peace and stability.

This attack adds to a pattern of violence in Benue State, where farmers and herders conflicts, as well as armed banditry, have led to numerous casualties and displacement. The government and security agencies continue to work on long-term solutions to address the root causes of insecurity. As investigations continue, residents remain on edge, hoping for swift justice and lasting peace in the region. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for sustained security measures and community engagement to prevent future tragedies.
