Nigerian Cultural Festival to Take Place in the United States

The Nigerian-American Festival, a vibrant celebration of Nigerian culture in the United States, is set to debut from June 16 to 18 at the Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Baltimore County, Maryland. Organized by the Nigerian Center in partnership with Guinness Baltimore, the three-day event aims to highlight the richness, diversity, and global influence of Nigerian heritage through music, food, art, and community engagement. This inaugural festival will bring together Nigerian Americans, African diaspora communities, and local residents for a dynamic cultural exchange that underscores the deep connections between Nigeria and the U.S.

The festival will feature live music performances, traditional and contemporary cultural shows, authentic Nigerian cuisine, interactive experiences, retail vendors, and family-friendly activities. Attendees will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Nigerian traditions, from fashion and dance to storytelling and culinary arts. The event also emphasizes entrepreneurship, showcasing Nigerian-owned businesses and creatives who are making their mark in the American landscape.

A unique highlight of the festival will be a custom limited-time beer release, developed in collaboration between the Nigerian Center and Guinness Baltimore. This special brew will be available exclusively at the brewery during the festival, symbolizing the shared cultural appreciation between Nigeria and the United States. The partnership reflects Guinness’s long-standing connection with Nigeria, where the brand has been a part of celebrations and social gatherings for generations.

Gbenga Ogunjimi, Executive Director of the Nigerian Center, emphasized the broader significance of the event. “The Nigerian-American Festival reflects our belief that Nigeria’s story is larger than its borders. It lives through Nigerian Americans and resonates across the broader African diaspora, including African Americans and Afro-Latinos with shared ancestral and cultural ties to Nigeria,” he said. Ogunjimi expressed pride in the collaboration with Guinness, calling it a moment to unite heritage, culture, entrepreneurship, and community in celebration.

Ryan Wagner, National Guinness Ambassador in the U.S., echoed this sentiment, stating that the festival would serve as a platform to celebrate Nigerian culture among its people in America. He noted Guinness’s enduring relationship with Nigeria, where the brand has become intertwined with local traditions and joyous occasions. The event is expected to attract visitors from across the region, fostering cross-cultural understanding and pride in Nigerian identity.

As the Nigerian-American Festival prepares to launch, it stands as a testament to the growing visibility and influence of Nigerian culture in the United States. The celebration is not just a showcase of heritage, but a step toward greater inclusion and recognition of the Nigerian diaspora’s contributions to American society.
