The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the theft of six generators from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Jega Local Government Area, as well as a separate case involving cable vandalism. The arrests were made following coordinated police operations that led to the recovery of all stolen generators, including one that had already been dismantled into scrap parts for sale. The command’s spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, confirmed the developments in a statement released on Monday, emphasizing that the investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court once completed.
According to SP Usman, detectives were deployed after receiving a report of a breaking and entering incident at the INEC office in Jega. The investigation quickly led to the apprehension of four individuals linked to the generator theft. One of the generators had been partially dismantled and was being sold as scrap when police recovered it. This demonstrates the swift response by law enforcement to protect public property and maintain security in the region.
In another operation conducted on August 28, 2026, at approximately 7:30 a.m., police officers arrested 24-year-old Aliyu Muhammed from Dudduke Village, Jega LGA. He was found in possession of bundles of aluminium cable wires hidden inside a sack. During interrogation, Muhammed confessed to conspiring with Yusuf Dudduke, also from Dudduke Village, to vandalize and steal cables from an electric pole in the community. Yusuf was later arrested, bringing the total number of suspects detained across both cases to six.
All six suspects are currently in custody and will face charges related to theft, vandalism of critical infrastructure, and conspiracy. The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, issued a stern warning against any acts of sabotage or theft of government property. He stressed that such crimes would attract severe penalties under Nigerian law. CP Hadejia also called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to help prevent future incidents.
