The death of 31-year-old Lucky Omole in Ovwodokpokpor-Olomu, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, has triggered a formal petition by Olorogun Amrevuawho Peter, Head of the Edariese Family, calling for a fair and impartial investigation by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Otu-Jeremi. Omole was shot by unidentified gunmen on June 30, 2026, in broad daylight on the community’s main street, an incident witnessed by residents and fellow hunters who survived the attack. The victim, who lived on Ogbe Street, was returning from a hunting expedition when he was ambushed and fatally injured. He was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Ovwian, Udu LGA, but succumbed to his wounds and was later deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Otu-Jeremi.
Peter, a former Chairman of the Delta State chapter of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), described the killing as a “clear case of murder” and dismissed claims linking Omole to cult-related activities. He emphasized that the deceased lived peacefully in the community and had no involvement in the alleged cult violence that occurred in the area on June 28, 2026. The family head urged law enforcement to conduct a thorough and unbiased probe to ensure justice is served and to restore public trust in the security apparatus. He also raised concerns that some individuals posing as community leaders may have been involved in arming the attackers, citing previous violent incidents targeting members of the Edariese Efejama family.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that the attack happened in full view of the public, with several hunters present who could provide crucial testimonies. The community is now demanding accountability and swift action from the police to prevent further acts of violence. Despite the gravity of the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, has yet to officially confirm the event or release any statement. The lack of official response has heightened anxiety among residents, who fear that without immediate intervention, such attacks may continue unchecked.
