Gunmen Attack Ogun Estate, Abduct Three Family Members in Brazen Raid

Gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked a residential estate in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, on Monday evening, abducting three family members in a brazen raid that has sparked alarm among residents. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. at Ipojo Golden Estate in the Oke-Eri area, where 15 armed suspects stormed a home with sophisticated weapons. They forcefully entered the property, ransacked it, and took away two women and a man who were identified as family members. The head of the household, Yesiru Badewa, was away on official duty at the time of the attack and later expressed deep distress over the abduction.

Badewa spoke to reporters, revealing that one of the victims is seriously ill and feared for her health while in captivity. “This has devastated us. One of those taken is sick, and we are worried her condition may deteriorate in captivity. We appeal to the authorities and kind-hearted Nigerians to come to our aid,” he said. The family’s plea underscores the growing fear among residents of Ijebu-Ode, where such violent crimes have become increasingly common. The attack has heightened concerns about security in the area, especially in upscale residential zones once considered safe.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST on Tuesday. He stated that the Ogun State Police Command has launched intensified tactical and intelligence operations aimed at rescuing the abducted individuals and apprehending the perpetrators. Babaseyi emphasized that the command remains committed to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state. He urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies in the ongoing efforts to restore peace.

The raid at Ipojo Golden Estate highlights the persistent threat of banditry and kidnapping in parts of southwestern Nigeria, despite increased security measures. The incident has drawn attention to the vulnerability of even well-protected communities to armed attacks. Authorities are under pressure to act swiftly and decisively to prevent further loss of life and restore public confidence. As investigations continue, the family and community await news of the victims’ safe return.

The abduction has also reignited calls for improved security infrastructure and intelligence gathering in Ogun State. With similar attacks reported in recent months, experts warn that coordinated efforts between state and federal agencies are essential to curb the rising tide of violent crime. The outcome of this case will likely influence public perception of safety in the region and the effectiveness of current security strategies.
