Five suspects have been arrested in Yobe State for various criminal activities including fraud, vandalism of a community transformer, and causing grievous hurt, according to the state police command. The arrests were made across different local government areas following swift investigations by police operatives. The cases highlight ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat crime and restore public confidence in security.
The first arrest involved two men apprehended on August 6, 2026, by operatives of ‘A’ Division Damaturu. Mohammed Sani, 26, from Zanna Zakarya Housing Estate, and Ali Isa Waziri, 25, from Waziri Ibrahim Housing Estate, are accused of defrauding a shopkeeper along Ajari–Gashua Road. The fraud occurred after an accomplice impersonated the complainant over the phone, leading to the theft of one carton of OBA Spaghetti and two half bags of parboiled rice. Police recovered the stolen items as exhibits, and investigations are continuing ahead of prosecution.
In a separate incident, Fika Divisional Police Headquarters received a report at 8:00 AM on August 6 about the vandalism of a community transformer and the theft of its power cable. Police responded quickly, working with community members and vigilantes to arrest Ibrahim Musa, 23, from Bizagula Ward, Potiskum, who was found in possession of the stolen cable. Two additional suspects were later apprehended in connection with the crime. The stolen cable was also recovered and is being preserved as evidence for further legal action.
Meanwhile, the police are investigating a case of grievous hurt reported in Tarmuwa Local Government Area. Preliminary findings indicate that a 22-year-old suspect allegedly shot his victim using a bow and arrow. The attack reportedly followed accusations that the victim was seen in a compromising situation with the suspect’s wife near her parents’ residence in Danewa-Biriri Village. The injured man is currently receiving medical treatment at the police hospital in Damaturu, while the suspect remains in custody.
These arrests underscore the state police command’s commitment to addressing diverse forms of criminality in Yobe State.
