FC Porto manager Francesco Farioli has confirmed that a final decision on the future of Nigerian striker Terem Moffi will only be made after the conclusion of the 2025–26 season, as the club focuses on finishing the campaign strongly. Moffi joined Porto on loan from OGC Nice during the winter transfer window, with an option to make the move permanent, following a controversial incident involving the club’s supporters in France. Despite the initial promise of the transfer, the 25-year-old has struggled to make a significant impact at the Estádio do Dragão, sparking speculation about his long-term role at the Portuguese giants.
Farioli addressed the situation during a press conference ahead of Porto’s Primeira Liga match against AVS, emphasizing that the club is currently engaged in discussions with players whose contracts are set to expire. He highlighted the importance of professionalism and personal relationships in these conversations, noting that decisions will not be rushed. “As you know, there are players whose contracts are ending and, as you can imagine, there are conversations with them and their agents to understand the situation and possible conditions,” Farioli said, as reported by Ojogo. He added, “I am very grateful to them for their level of professionalism and for what they have contributed. I have a personal connection with all of them.”
The manager stressed that the club’s priority remains securing maximum points in the remaining matches of the season. “We are about to make some decisions, but nothing will be decided before the championship final, because our focus is still on getting as many points as possible in these two games,” he stated. This approach underscores Porto’s commitment to maintaining performance standards even as transfer talks progress behind the scenes.
Since his arrival, Moffi has made nine league appearances for Porto, with eight of those coming off the bench. He has scored one goal and provided one assist in that time, figures that may not yet be enough to convince the club to trigger the permanent transfer clause. However, with Porto already crowned champions of the Primeira Liga, Moffi now has a clear opportunity to impress in the final fixtures and strengthen his case for a permanent stay.
As the season winds down, all eyes will be on Moffi’s performances, not just for his personal future, but also for what it means for Nigeria’s growing presence in top European leagues. His journey from Ligue 1 to Portugal’s elite continues to be closely watched by fans and scouts alike. The coming weeks could determine whether his time at Porto becomes a permanent chapter or a brief stop on his international career path.
