Ekiti-born businessman Isaac Fayose has issued a stern warning to voters in Ekiti State, urging them not to re-elect Governor Biodun Oyebanji for a second term. In a video shared on his official Facebook page on Friday, Fayose reacted to reports that President Bola Tinubu is set to visit the state on April 27, 2026, to flag off the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign. The event is scheduled to take place at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
Fayose questioned why Governor Oyebanji had not invited the president to commission any projects during his over three-and-a-half years in office. He expressed disappointment that the governor is now seeking national political support for re-election, rather than showcasing tangible achievements. “I heard that Mr President will be coming to Ekiti State on Monday to flag the flag off,” Fayose said in the video. “Mr President, for over three and a half years, why didn’t they invite you to come and commission anything? Now they are inviting you to come and flag off the campaign.”
He criticized the timing and purpose of the visit, calling it a sign of poor governance. “Why do you want to reinforce failure in Ekiti State? You are dragging Ekiti people back,” Fayose stated. He added that extending another four years to a governor who has delivered little would be “unfair on Ekiti people.” The businessman emphasized that voters deserve better leadership and visible development, not political campaigns built on empty promises.
Fayose’s remarks have sparked discussion across social media platforms, especially among Ekiti residents who are closely watching the upcoming 2026 governorship election. His criticism highlights growing public concern over governance and accountability in the state. The APC’s campaign kickoff with President Tinubu’s presence is expected to draw significant attention, but Fayose’s warning may influence voter sentiment in the lead-up to the election.
As the political season heats up, Ekiti State residents are being called to reflect on their leaders’ performance. The 2026 governorship election will be a critical test of public trust and political accountability. Fayose’s message serves as a reminder that leadership should be judged by results, not by campaign rallies or high-profile endorsements. The coming months will determine whether voters choose continuity or change in Ekiti’s political landscape.
