Ekiti North Senator Cyril Fasuyion has expressed strong confidence in Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s victory in the ongoing governorship election in Ekiti State, stating that the incumbent is poised to secure another term. Speaking to journalists after casting his vote at Isape Ward 1, Unit 16 in Ido-Ekiti, Fasuyion emphasized the importance of adhering to electoral procedures, noting that he joined the queue like every other voter. He stressed that no individual should receive special treatment during the voting process, reinforcing the need for fairness and transparency in the election.
The senator described the atmosphere at his polling unit as peaceful and orderly, expressing satisfaction with how voters and election officials were conducting themselves early in the day. He noted that while it was still early morning, the turnout appeared steady and promising, with more voters expected to come out before the polls close at 4:00 PM. Fasuyion highlighted that the election was being conducted under strict adherence to guidelines, and he praised the calm and disciplined environment at the polling station.
Fasuyion arrived at the polling unit around 8:30 AM and patiently waited his turn to vote, underscoring his commitment to democratic principles. He said, “I came in around 8:30am and I am on the queue like every other person. I don’t want to come here and just shun the queue. When it is my turn, I will do my accreditation and vote. It is very peaceful, as you can see.” He added that the early stage of the election showed no signs of disruption or irregularities, which he viewed as a positive indicator for the overall conduct of the poll.
Reflecting on the campaign period, the senator said the party had worked diligently and prayed for success over the past three to four months. He emphasized that the election was not just about numbers but about the will of the people. “We have done that and it ended on Thursday. We can’t do that again. We have worked hard, we have prayed and now we are waiting to see the result of what we have done,” he said.
Fasuyion expressed hope that the party would achieve over 500,000 votes, but he made it clear that victory for Governor Oyebanji was the primary goal. “I am sure that my candidate, Governor Oyebanji, will still win the election by the grace of God today. If we get to the 500,000 votes, glory be to God. If we don’t get it, as long as there is victory for my candidate, then glory be to God because we cannot force people to vote,” he stated.
As the election continues across Ekiti State, Fasuyion’s comments reflect the optimism within the ruling party, while also highlighting the importance of a fair and credible electoral process. The outcome of this election will shape the political landscape of Ekiti State for the next four years, and all eyes remain on the final results.
