Ebonyi LG Election: APC Candidate for Ohaozara, Umahis Son Casts Vote

The peaceful conduct of the Ebonyi State local government elections has drawn widespread commendation from prominent political figures, including Osbourne Umahi, son of Minister of Works David Umahi and APC chairmanship candidate for Ohaozara Local Government Area. Speaking after casting his vote at Onuofukulu polling unit in Umunaga, Uburu, Umahi expressed satisfaction with the electoral process, highlighting the calm atmosphere that prevailed across polling stations. He emphasized that the election was being conducted without violence or disruptions, and he voiced confidence that the results would accurately reflect the will of the electorate.

Osbourne Umahi urged all stakeholders to maintain the peaceful environment until the final collation of results, underscoring the importance of a credible and transparent outcome. His comments echoed those of other senior officials who also voted and praised the exercise. Valentine Okike-Uzor, Commissioner for Special Duties, described voting as a constitutional right and called on the elected chairman to serve all residents, regardless of political affiliation. Speaking at Onu Borehole polling unit in Onicha Local Government Area, Okike-Uzor stressed that leadership must be inclusive and representative of the entire community.

Francis Ori, Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, also commended the election after voting in Umunaga, Uburu. He thanked Governor Francis Nwifuru for fostering peace in the state and lauded the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) for its role in organizing the polls. Ori noted that high voter turnout at his polling unit demonstrated public trust in the administration and interest in democratic participation. Senator Anthony Ani, representing Ebonyi South Senatorial District, echoed similar sentiments after voting in Onicha, describing the election as proof of the state’s deep-rooted commitment to democracy.

Ani highlighted the security measures put in place to ensure a smooth process and said the frequency of local government elections—whether every two or four years—was less important than the quality of governance delivered. He stressed that elected leaders must prioritize accountability and service delivery to earn the people’s trust. Kama Nkemkanma, Representative for Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency, also expressed optimism following his vote in Ishiagu, Ivo Local Government Area. He observed strong voter turnout and said it reflected genuine public interest in local governance. Nkemkanma expressed confidence in an APC victory while urging all candidates to focus on serving the people rather than partisan gains.

As the collation of results continues, the peaceful nature of the election has reinforced public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic processes, particularly at the grassroots level. The event marks another step toward strengthening local governance and ensuring that communities have a direct say in their development.
