Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected drug peddlers in a major crackdown that resulted in the recovery of eight parcels of substance believed to be Canadian loud, concealed inside a car tyre. The operation took place on Saturday morning following intelligence reports and was carried out by officers acting on specific directives. The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, who provided details of the incident to DAILY POST. According to Ayanlade, operatives moved swiftly to a shop where the suspects were found attempting to conceal the drugs. With the help of a vulcanizer, they discovered the illicit substances hidden within a car tyre during routine checks.
In addition to the eight parcels of suspected cannabis, authorities also seized a vulcanizing machine, which is believed to have been used in the process of hiding the drugs. This equipment has now been collected as an exhibit for further forensic examination and possible use in court proceedings. The suspects, after being interrogated, admitted to their involvement in the illegal activity and are cooperating with investigators.
Ayanlade emphasized that the suspects will be formally charged to court once the investigation is complete. He noted that the operation reflects the commitment of the Oyo State Police Command to combat drug trafficking and ensure public safety. The discovery underscores the increasing sophistication of drug smugglers who use unconventional methods to evade detection.
This incident highlights the persistent challenge of drug abuse and distribution in Nigeria, particularly in urban areas where such substances are often trafficked under the guise of legitimate activities. The police’s ability to act on intelligence and recover evidence demonstrates effective coordination between law enforcement and local community members.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The seizure of these drugs is expected to disrupt local supply chains and send a strong message to would-be offenders. The Oyo State Police Command remains focused on maintaining peace and security across the state through proactive operations and community engagement.
