Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi, OFR, has issued a public apology for the tension sparked by his remarks during a campaign visit to the palace of Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, the Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, following the Osun State governorship election. In a statement released after the election, Fadahunsi clarified that his visit was primarily to seek justice and express grief over the killing of members of his political party. He emphasized that his emotional appeal was misinterpreted by critics as a call for violence, which he strongly denies.
Fadahunsi stated that he never advocated for chaos or any form of violence, calling the criticism against him unfair and misplaced. He explained that his words were spoken during a deeply painful moment, when he was still reeling from the loss of party members. The senator expressed deep appreciation to the Owa of Ijesaland for handling the situation with wisdom and composure, despite claims by some individuals that his remarks were disrespectful to the traditional institution.
He praised the monarch for demonstrating the qualities of a true father to all people, regardless of political affiliation. According to Fadahunsi, the Owa’s calm and balanced response played a key role in preventing the situation from escalating further. The senator stressed that leaders must prioritize the interest of the people above personal feelings and political differences.
He added that peace in Osun State, especially in Ijesaland, is far more important than any political victory, defeat, or disagreement. “Because the peace of Osun State and Ijesaland in particular is far more important than any political dispute, victory, or defeat, I sincerely apologise for the tension that resulted from this misunderstanding,” Fadahunsi said in the statement.
The senator called on his supporters and residents of the state to embrace peace and work toward healing after the election. He urged everyone to respect the role of traditional institutions in fostering unity and harmony within Ijesaland. While apologizing for the misunderstanding, Fadahunsi reiterated that his demand for justice over the deaths of his party members remains unchanged.
He appealed to the Osun State Government and security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the killings, ensuring justice is served through lawful and peaceful means. Fadahunsi also encouraged all parties to set aside political differences and collaborate for lasting peace and unity in the state. He pledged to continue seeking justice for the victims while urging citizens to avoid actions that could fuel further unrest.
The statement, signed by Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi, OFR, underscores his commitment to peace and accountability in the aftermath of a tense electoral period. His message serves as a reminder that national cohesion must always take precedence over political rivalry.
