The Yobe State Police Command has intensified its fight against crime by arresting 63 suspects and recovering a significant quantity of illicit drugs and dangerous weapons during a major raid in Damaturu metropolis on 12th July, 2026. The operation, carried out by personnel from ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ Divisions under the Damaturu Area Command, targeted known criminal hotspots across the state capital. Among the 63 suspects arrested were eight women, highlighting the Command’s broad reach in dismantling criminal networks. The crackdown is part of a sustained effort to curb drug trafficking, substance abuse, and violent crime in the region.
The raid covered several high-risk areas including Mass Transit, Family Support, Zango CMC, Finance, Nayinawa Primary School, Jerusalem Ajayi, Moduri, and Sunday Market. These locations were identified as hubs for illegal activities, particularly the distribution and consumption of controlled substances. Police officers conducted swift and coordinated searches, resulting in the seizure of various dangerous items. Recovered items include Tramadol tablets, Valium-5 tablets, nine Pentazocine injections, a liquid substance known locally as “Sholi,” another dangerous liquid called “Suck and Die,” suspected Indian hemp, and axes among other hazardous tools.
The Police Command emphasized that all suspects are currently undergoing thorough investigations. Those found guilty will be charged to court in accordance with the law. The Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, reaffirmed the force’s commitment to eradicating drug-related crimes and other forms of criminality in Yobe State. He urged officers to maintain the momentum of the ongoing operations and called on the public to remain vigilant and cooperative.
CP Jibrin stressed the importance of community involvement, urging citizens to report any suspicious activities. “See something, say something. Report suspicions,” he said, reinforcing the message that public cooperation is crucial in maintaining security. The Police Command’s actions reflect a broader strategy to restore order and safety in Damaturu, where crime and drug abuse have posed serious challenges to public welfare. This latest operation demonstrates the force’s capability and determination to act decisively against criminal elements. As the investigations continue, authorities remain focused on ensuring justice and long-term peace in the state.
