Anambra Police Arrest Two Suspects Over Disappearance of 33-Year-Old Woman in Oraifite

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two men over the murder of a 33-year-old woman in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area, following a three-month investigation. The suspects, identified as Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara, 26, and Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, 20, were apprehended on June 6, 2026, after the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough probe. The victim’s body was discovered on March 14, 2026, inside a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, Oraifite, after her mother reported her missing on March 13, 2026.

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police command’s spokesperson, the investigation was driven by intelligence and digital forensic evidence. The suspects confessed during interrogation, with Ikwugwara admitting he was in a romantic relationship with the victim for about three years. He claimed he was unaware she was married and developed a strange illness affecting his vision after a dispute with her husband, which fueled his resentment and led to the murder.

Ikwugwara stated he lured the woman to his residence on March 13, 2026, under the pretense of seeking help due to his illness. Upon her arrival, he and Uzoigwe attacked her with a machete, causing her death. The suspects then disposed of her body in the culvert the following morning. The victim’s father later identified the body as that of his daughter.

The police said both suspects have fully confessed to their roles in the crime. They are currently in custody and will be charged to court once the investigation is completed. The case highlights the importance of swift and coordinated law enforcement actions in solving violent crimes. The arrest brings closure to the family and the community, while reinforcing public confidence in the police’s ability to deliver justice. The incident underscores the need for awareness and vigilance in preventing domestic violence and relationship-related crimes in Nigeria.
