Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has publicly declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, stating that Nigerians will re-elect him due to the progress made under his administration. Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Eno highlighted key achievements, including financial support from the federal government that enabled the state to execute major infrastructure projects. He emphasized that Tinubu’s policies have stabilized the naira and strengthened Nigeria’s foreign reserves, creating a foundation for continued development.
Eno detailed the state’s accomplishments, noting that over 1,300 kilometers of roads have been constructed, 458 compassionate homes built to support 12,000 elderly citizens, and hospitals established in all 31 local government areas. He also pointed to the development of modern, solar-powered schools as evidence of the government’s commitment to sustainable progress. These projects, he said, were made possible through funding made available by President Tinubu’s administration, which has empowered state governments to deliver tangible results.
The governor also praised Tinubu’s tax reforms and their positive impact on citizens, arguing that these measures have contributed to economic stability. He noted that the naira’s value against the dollar has improved since Tinubu assumed office, and that the country’s foreign reserves have grown significantly. According to Eno, these developments provide compelling reasons for both Akwa Ibom and Nigerians nationwide to re-elect the president to complete the transformation he has initiated.
When asked if he would actively campaign for Tinubu’s re-election, Eno affirmed his commitment, stating that Akwa Ibom is firmly behind Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC). He cited recent primary election results, where he received 392,000 votes and Tinubu secured close to 400,000 votes in the state. He added that the APC dominates Akwa Ibom’s political landscape, with all senators, 24 out of 26 House of Assembly members, and 30 out of 31 local government chairmen belonging to the party. He expressed confidence in the party’s ground presence and ability to mobilize support.
Eno acknowledged the importance of political pluralism, saying he respects all candidates and believes more options are better for democracy. However, he expressed no fear of opposition, asserting that the APC’s grassroots network is strong and active. He concluded by reinforcing his belief that Nigerians will choose continuity and progress, supporting Tinubu to finish the job he has started. The governor’s endorsement underscores growing momentum for Tinubu’s re-election bid, particularly in key southern states like Akwa Ibom.
