The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally announced its presidential ticket for the 2027 general election, with Atiku Abubakar as the party’s standard-bearer and Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate, a development that has been met with confidence by party leaders. Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, expressed firm belief that the Atiku-Amaechi ticket will defeat President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming election. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Abdullahi emphasized that the duo represents a strong and capable leadership team poised to deliver better governance than the current administration.
Abdullahi highlighted that all candidates who participated in the ADC’s presidential primary, including Atiku, Rotimi Amaechi, and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, possess the qualities needed to outperform President Tinubu’s leadership. He stated, “We believe that everybody who was running as an aspirant on the platform of the ADC, whether it’s Atiku or Rotimi Amaechi or Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, will do far better than what President Bola Tinubu is doing.” The ADC’s internal primary process, he added, was conducted in a credible and transparent manner, reinforcing the party’s commitment to democratic principles.
The announcement of Atiku as the presidential candidate and Amaechi as his vice-presidential running mate has significantly boosted the party’s morale and electoral prospects. Amaechi, who initially contested the presidential slot, lost to Atiku in the primary but was later selected as the vice-presidential candidate, showcasing the party’s unity and strategic planning. Abdullahi confirmed that the ADC will be on the ballot in 2027 and that the party will soon formally unveil the presidential ticket to the public, signaling a formal entry into the electoral race.
As political parties across Nigeria continue to solidify their positions ahead of the 2027 elections, the ADC’s announcement adds another competitive dimension to the race. President Bola Tinubu, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), remains the incumbent and is expected to seek re-election. Meanwhile, Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is also positioning himself as a strong contender. In the 2023 election, Tinubu won with over eight million votes, while Obi and Atiku each secured more than six million votes, demonstrating their significant support bases.
The 2027 election is shaping up to be one of the most contested in Nigeria’s history, with multiple parties and candidates vying for national leadership. The ADC’s announcement of its presidential ticket marks a key step in its campaign strategy, and the party’s confidence suggests it is preparing for a serious challenge to the ruling APC. As the political landscape evolves, Nigerians will be watching closely to see how the Atiku-Amaechi ticket builds momentum in the coming years.
