NDC Unveils Screening Committees for House of Assembly Aspirants

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially launched its screening process for House of Assembly aspirants across all 36 states of Nigeria, with the exercise commencing on Saturday, May 23, 2026, and concluding on Monday, May 25, 2026. The party’s leadership has established state-specific screening committees to ensure a fair, transparent, and credible selection of candidates for the upcoming elections. This move underscores the NDC’s commitment to fielding qualified and reputable candidates who meet both legal and party standards.

The screening committees, each composed of three members — a chairman, a secretary, and one additional member — will be responsible for evaluating aspirants based on key criteria including character, capability, and capacity to win elections. These panels will operate under strict guidelines issued in a memo jointly signed by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, and National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu Esq. The document outlines the procedures and expectations for the screening process, emphasizing integrity and accountability.

To be eligible for the party’s nomination form, aspirants must first be financially up-to-date members of the NDC and must provide verifiable evidence of their contribution to the party’s growth and development. This requirement aims to ensure that only committed and active members are considered for candidacy. Additionally, applicants must meet the constitutional qualifications for the office they are seeking and must not have any criminal record or be under investigation or trial by any anti-graft agency such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) or Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The NDC has also issued a stern warning to aspirants: anyone found bringing thugs or miscreants to the screening venues risks immediate disqualification. The party insists on maintaining peace, order, and professionalism during the process, and will not tolerate any form of intimidation or violence. This directive reflects the NDC’s determination to uphold democratic values and ensure that the selection of candidates is free from coercion or undue influence.

The screening exercise is a critical step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections. By instituting clear criteria and a structured process, the NDC aims to build public trust and strengthen its credibility as a political force. As the party moves forward, the focus remains on selecting candidates who can represent the people effectively and uphold the principles of good governance. The outcome of these screenings will shape the NDC’s electoral strategy and influence its performance in the upcoming polls.
