Ahmed Galadima Emerges APC Governorship Candidate in Adamawa State Primaries

Ahmed Galadima has been declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Adamawa State, marking a significant step in his political journey toward the 2027 state gubernatorial race. The announcement was made on Friday in Yola, the state capital, by Prof Innocent Barikor, Chairman of the APC Governorship Planning Committee. Galadima secured 414,444 votes, decisively defeating his closest rival, Abdulrazak Namdas, who garnered 86,004 votes. Abdulrahman Haske came in third with 65,934 votes, according to the official results released by the committee.

Galadima’s victory reflects strong support within the APC structure in Adamawa State, where he is seen as a credible and experienced candidate. He is the immediate past Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), a federal agency responsible for funding technical and vocational training in the oil and gas sector. His tenure at PTDF was marked by efforts to expand access to education and skills development for Nigerian youth, particularly in the energy sector.

In April 2026, Galadima formally resigned from his position at PTDF to fully commit to his gubernatorial ambition. His decision to step down from a prominent federal role underscores his determination to contest for state leadership and bring his administrative experience to bear on Adamawa’s development challenges. The APC’s selection of Galadima as its flagbearer is expected to energize party members and consolidate support ahead of the general elections.

The primary election was conducted in accordance with APC’s internal guidelines, with delegates from various local government areas participating in the voting process. The results were announced after a transparent tally, and no significant disputes were reported during the declaration. Prof Barikor emphasized the committee’s commitment to fairness and adherence to party protocols throughout the exercise.

As the APC prepares for the 2027 governorship election, Galadima’s emergence as the party’s standard-bearer positions him as a key figure in Adamawa’s political landscape. His background in public administration and technical development may appeal to voters seeking leadership with a focus on economic growth and youth empowerment. With the primary concluded, the party now turns its attention to campaign preparations and building a broad coalition for the general election.

Galadima’s victory sets the stage for a competitive race in Adamawa, where he will face candidates from other political parties. His ability to translate primary success into electoral victory will depend on his campaign strategy, grassroots mobilization, and policy messaging. The outcome of the 2027 governorship election could shape the state’s trajectory in the coming years, making Galadima’s candidacy a focal point for political watchers across Nigeria.
