Police Arrest Two Suspects Over Repeated Abduction of Elderly Man in Kaduna

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested two men accused of kidnapping Alhaji Rabo Jelani, an elderly man from Kaduna State, and extorting ransom from his family. The suspects, identified as Yusuf Rabo and Musa Adamu, were apprehended following a detailed investigation into the abduction case. The police disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, who emphasized the force’s ongoing commitment to dismantling kidnapping and armed robbery gangs nationwide.

According to police investigations, Yusuf Rabo conspired with Musa Adamu and Ali Haruna, the victim’s grandson, to abduct Alhaji Jelani. Ali Haruna remains at large as authorities continue to track him down. The gang allegedly targeted the elderly man because they believed he possessed significant wealth and livestock, making him a lucrative target for ransom. The suspects carried out two separate abductions, with the first yielding N2,000,000 and the second bringing in N4,500,000.

During the operations, the kidnappers used several AK-47 rifles, one of which was recovered by police officers with an empty magazine. The victim was taken to forest hideouts where ransom negotiations were conducted by Yusuf Rabo. The police stated that the suspects have also been linked to other criminal activities in the area, including the kidnapping of a trader named Mr. Iyke and a robbery attack along the Kagoma axis, where travellers were robbed of cash and valuables.

DCP Placid reiterated that law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to bring all perpetrators to justice. He confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend Ali Haruna and recover additional weapons connected to the crimes. The police have also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

This arrest underscores the growing efforts by security agencies to combat rising kidnapping incidents in Kaduna State and across Nigeria. The case highlights the increasing sophistication of criminal networks and the need for continued collaboration between security forces and communities. As investigations continue, authorities remain focused on ensuring justice for victims and preventing future crimes.

The arrest of Yusuf Rabo and Musa Adamu sends a strong message that no one is above the law, and that the police will not relent in their fight against kidnapping and armed robbery in Nigeria.
