One person has been killed and two others injured in a violent clash between armed men and residents of Unguwan Marke in Munsal Ward, Liman Katagum District of Bauchi Local Government Area, following an alleged eviction attempt. The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, according to a report shared on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama. The armed group, claiming to be members of a hunters’ association, stormed the community with the intent to remove the roof of a building owned by Isah Garba, a resident of Balakum village in Alkaleri Local Government Area.
The confrontation began when local youths challenged the intruders, leading to a swift escalation into gunfire. The armed men opened fire after being confronted, resulting in immediate casualties. Among the injured, Sani Hassan sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, while Garba from Shinge village was shot in the hand. The third victim, Mubarak Adamu, was fatally shot and died at the scene.
Police responded promptly and transported the injured to the Specialist Hospital in Bauchi for medical attention. A hospital doctor confirmed that Mubarak Adamu had succumbed to his injuries. His body was later released to his family for burial, as per customary procedures. The incident has sparked concern among residents and security agencies alike, with questions arising over the legitimacy of the eviction claim.
Sources indicate that the armed men claimed to be acting on an eviction order issued by a High Court in Bauchi. However, the authenticity of the court order and the use of firearms by the group are currently under investigation. Authorities have launched a full inquiry to identify and apprehend those involved in the attack. The Bauchi State Police Command has not yet released an official statement, but security operatives are reportedly conducting door-to-door searches in the area.
The clash has heightened tensions in the region, with residents calling for swift justice and increased security presence. The incident underscores ongoing challenges related to land disputes and the misuse of legal documents to justify violent actions in parts of northern Nigeria. As investigations continue, the community remains on edge, awaiting further developments from security and judicial authorities. This event highlights the urgent need for peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms and stricter oversight of evictions in sensitive areas.
