Engr. Ososa Iyawe, the federal lawmaker representing Oredo Federal Constituency, has firmly denied resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing the circulating letter as unauthorized and false. The alleged resignation, dated May 6, 2026, and addressed to Ward 1 in Oredo Local Government Area, claimed he had withdrawn from the APC due to irreconcilable differences with Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and intended to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). The letter also stated that he had pulled out of the 2027 House of Representatives race on the APC platform. However, Iyawe has categorically refuted these claims in a press statement released on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in Benin City.
Iyawe, who was elected on the Labour Party platform in 2023 before defecting to the APC on December 5, 2024, said the letter was issued without his knowledge or approval. He blamed certain overzealous individuals within his media circle and some loyalists for acting beyond his directives. In his statement, he emphasized that he remains a loyal and committed member of the APC and has not withdrawn his political aspirations. He stressed that the letter does not reflect his position and urged party members, supporters, and the public to disregard it as misinformation.
The lawmaker explained that he is currently engaged in constructive consultations with APC leadership in Edo State on matters affecting the party and the development of his constituency. He described these discussions as being conducted in the spirit of unity, mutual respect, and progressive development. Iyawe reaffirmed his commitment to the APC’s ideals and to advancing the welfare of Oredo Federal Constituency and Edo State as a whole. He also expressed appreciation for the concern, support, and solidarity shown by his supporters during the period of confusion.
The denial comes amid growing political speculation in Edo State, where party dynamics are often influenced by leadership tensions and media narratives. While the authenticity of the letter has been questioned, its circulation has sparked reactions across political circles and social media platforms. Iyawe’s clarification aims to restore clarity and prevent unnecessary division within the APC. As the 2027 general elections approach, party unity and candidate clarity will remain crucial for electoral success. The APC in Edo State is expected to closely monitor the situation to ensure internal cohesion and strategic planning moving forward.
