NSCDC Arrests and Parades Three Suspected Criminals in Zamfara

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Zamfara State has arrested three suspected criminals following a series of violent motorcycle thefts, parading them at the command’s headquarters in Gusau on Friday. The suspects, identified as Bashir Hassan, 20, Taminu Muhammed, 25, and Abdulrashid Abubakar, were apprehended based on intelligence reports and are currently in custody awaiting formal charges. The NSCDC emphasized that these arrests are part of ongoing efforts to curb rising insecurity and criminal activities in the state.

Assistant Superintendent of Corps Umar Mohammad, the command’s Public Relations Officer, disclosed that the two suspects, Bashir Hassan and Taminu Muhammed, were arrested at Nassarawa Burkullu Market. They were accused of forcefully stealing a Boxer motorcycle from its rider, threatening him with a stab wound during the incident. The victims reported that the suspects acted aggressively and attempted to flee the scene, but were intercepted by NSCDC operatives who responded swiftly to the intelligence report.

The third suspect, Abdulrashid Abubakar, who resides in Azare behind Koli Filling Station, was apprehended after allegedly deceiving a motorcyclist. According to the NSCDC statement, Abubakar lured the rider to a remote location, where he attacked him with a machete and tried to make off with the motorcycle. However, NSCDC personnel intervened and successfully arrested him before he could escape. The command confirmed that all three suspects are being held at the headquarters for further investigation.

The NSCDC urged residents of Zamfara State to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals in their communities. The corps stressed that community cooperation is vital in preventing crime and ensuring public safety. Mohammad also assured the public that the suspects will be charged in court once investigations are completed, in accordance with the law.

These arrests come amid heightened security concerns in northern Nigeria, where motorcycle theft and armed robbery remain persistent challenges. The NSCDC’s proactive response in Zamfara reflects a broader national effort to restore order and protect citizens’ lives and property. As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to intensify patrols and public awareness campaigns to deter further criminal acts.
