The Mitsubishi Canter, driven by Sanusi Aliyu of Kamba, was transporting goods and passengers from Aljannare market to Kamba when it swerved to avoid a pothole. This sudden maneuver caused several passengers to fall off the vehicle. The trailer, approaching from the opposite direction and with an unidentified registration number and driver, reportedly ran over the fallen passengers. The impact was devastating, leading to immediate fatalities.
Among those who lost their lives was Nura Nuhu, a 25-year-old man from Sokoto State, along with 10 other victims who died at the scene. The 12 injured, including 45-year-old Aliyu Suleman, were rushed to the General Hospital in Kamba for emergency medical treatment. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the hospital morgue for autopsy, as investigations continue into the exact circumstances of the crash.
Security sources confirmed that the accident was primarily caused by poor road conditions, specifically the presence of a pothole that forced the driver to make a sudden evasive action.
