21-Year-Old Arrested in Lagos for Possession of Human Body Part and Firearms

Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, Samson Onilewaji, following the recovery of a suspected human body part, firearms, axes, and stolen items during a routine stop-and-search operation on the Lekki–Epe Expressway. The arrest took place on Friday after police intercepted an unregistered commercial shuttle bus carrying six passengers. A thorough search of the vehicle and its occupants led to the discovery of several dangerous and illicit items, including a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, a Point of Sale (POS) terminal, and five ATM cards.

The police’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the details in a statement released on Friday. She stated that the suspect confessed to robbing three individuals of their personal belongings, including the recovered POS machine and ATM cards. The police are currently making efforts to identify and contact the victims to return their stolen property. The investigation is also focused on determining the origin of the suspected human hand and the circumstances under which it was in the suspect’s possession.

Adebisi emphasized that detectives are working to uncover the identity of the person to whom the body part belongs, as well as the intended use of the item. The police are also intensifying efforts to apprehend any other criminal associates linked to the suspect. According to the spokesperson, the suspect will be formally charged in court once the investigation is concluded.

The Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, responded to the arrest by reaffirming the command’s commitment to combating violent crimes and other criminal activities across the state. He stressed that such operations are part of ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and restore confidence in the security system. The arrest underscores the increasing vigilance of law enforcement agencies in targeting criminal networks involved in armed robbery, theft, and other forms of violence.

This incident highlights the persistent threat of armed robbery and violent crime in Lagos, particularly along major highways like the Lekki–Epe Expressway. The recovery of firearms and stolen valuables underscores the need for continued security measures and public awareness. Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

The case is now under active investigation, with police expected to release further updates as more information becomes available. The arrest of Samson Onilewaji serves as a warning to others involved in criminal activities that law enforcement remains active and determined to bring offenders to justice.
