Buba Galadima, a prominent chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that only God and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu truly know what will unfold in the 2027 presidential election. Speaking on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Galadima discussed the opposition’s preparations for the upcoming poll, particularly focusing on the proposed Obi-Kwankwaso presidential ticket. He expressed deep concerns over the fairness of the election, citing troubling political developments and alleged coordinated attacks against opposition figures and supporters.
Galadima warned that dealing with what he described as “criminals and fraudsters” in Nigerian politics makes it impossible to predict electoral outcomes with certainty. “Only God and Tinubu know what will happen to this election,” he emphasized, highlighting the lack of transparency and trust in the current political environment. He pointed to recent incidents involving opposition supporters in Enugu, Peter Obi’s visit to Benue State, and an ADC governorship candidate in Kaduna as evidence of targeted harassment and intimidation.
Despite these challenges, Galadima remains confident in the Obi-Kwankwaso alliance, asserting that they would win if the election is conducted freely, fairly, and transparently. “Obi and Kwankwaso will win this election if it is free, fair and transparent, unless somebody decides to use the machinery of government and take it away from them,” he said. He revealed that he currently serves as chairman of the coordinating strategic committee for the presidential ticket, tasked with harmonizing the political blueprints of both candidates, who previously ran on different platforms in 2023.
Galadima stressed that the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket represents a unified vision for Nigeria, not a divided administration. “It is a single ticket for Nigeria. We are not going to run a divided government, one belonging to Kwankwaso and one belonging to Peter. No, we are running a Nigerian government. That is why we call this ticket a healing ticket for Nigeria,” he explained. The campaign will focus on national unity, restoring public confidence in governance, and enhancing security so Nigerians can live without fear.
Galadima maintained that the NDC’s strategy does not hinge on producing a single opposition candidate against Tinubu, noting that the opposition has evolved beyond the need for legally distinct parties to field a joint nominee. As Nigeria approaches the 2027 election, the political landscape remains charged with uncertainty, but opposition leaders like Galadima are positioning themselves as champions of reform and national healing.
