The Niger State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially commissioned its candidates for the 2027 general elections, urging them to focus on issue-based campaigns and inclusive leadership as they prepare for the upcoming polls. The party’s state chairman, Hon. Aliyu Halidu Mohammed, delivered the charge during a ceremony where certificates of return were presented to winners of the recent primary elections. The event marked a key step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections, with emphasis placed on unity, discipline, and grassroots mobilisation.
Mohammed stressed the importance of maintaining strong ties with the party’s internal structure, particularly the 25 local government chairmen and ward chairmen across the state. He described grassroots engagement as essential to the PDP’s success, noting that close collaboration with local party leaders would enhance voter mobilisation and strengthen party unity. He called on candidates to carry along party executives, stakeholders, supporters, and loyalists, ensuring a broad-based campaign effort that reflects the party’s commitment to inclusive leadership.
The state chairman also appealed to all party members and supporters to remain united and dedicated to the common goal of reclaiming political power in Niger State. “The enduring strength of the PDP lies in its unity, discipline, and unwavering dedication to providing purposeful leadership for the people of Niger State,” he stated, reinforcing the party’s core values. He emphasized that disciplined and coordinated campaigns would be crucial in countering the ruling party’s influence and winning public trust.
Senator Zainab Kure, a PDP stakeholder and former First Lady of Niger State, also addressed the gathering. She commended the party’s flag bearers for their loyalty and commitment to the cause, acknowledging the challenges of contesting from the opposition. Kure urged the candidates to remain steadfast, determined, and prayerful as they prepare for the electoral battle ahead, highlighting the need for resilience and strategic planning.
Certificates of return were distributed to 33 candidates in total—three senatorial candidates, six House of Representatives candidates, and 24 State House of Assembly candidates—who emerged victorious in the PDP primaries held across Niger State. These candidates now officially represent the party in their respective constituencies as the 2027 election cycle begins to take shape.
With the formal commissioning of its candidates, the PDP in Niger State is positioning itself for a strong electoral challenge, relying on unity, grassroots engagement, and issue-based messaging to win over voters. The party’s leadership is confident that with disciplined campaigns and broad-based support, the PDP can regain political dominance in the state by 2027.
