Police Arrest Vandals, Thief, and Cattle Rustler in Jigawa State

The Jigawa State Police Command has achieved significant operational success with the arrest of suspected vandals, thieves, and a cattle rustler in intelligence-led operations conducted across the state on July 8. The arrests were made following coordinated efforts by police units in Dutse and Guri Local Government Areas, resulting in the recovery of valuable stolen property and three suspected stolen cows. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna A Yahaya, praised the officers for their professionalism and urged the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies.

In Dutse metropolis, police operatives arrested three suspects—Aminu Mohammed, 17, of Fagoji Quarters; Abdullahi Mustapha, 17, of Zai Quarters; and Sani Umar, 18, of Shagari Quarters—for allegedly vandalizing electric cable wires removed from behind a hotel. Investigations revealed that some of the suspects were involved in receiving stolen goods, highlighting a broader network of criminal activity. The recovered cables are crucial for maintaining power supply in the area, and their retrieval is seen as a major win for public safety and infrastructure protection.

In another operation, police from the Dutse Division apprehended a 23-year-old man, Suleiman Muhammad of Mariri Quarters in Kano State, for possessing suspected stolen items. The recovered goods included a PlayStation 5 game console and two plasma television sets, valued at approximately N2.5 million. The rightful owners were identified and the items released to them on bond, while the suspect faces charges following further investigations. This case underscores the importance of community cooperation in combating theft and recovering stolen property.

Meanwhile, in Guri Local Government Area, police working with local vigilantes arrested a suspected cattle rustler found with three stolen cows hidden in his compound. The animals were returned to their rightful owner, and authorities are continuing to investigate to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected cattle-rustling syndicate. Cattle rustling remains a persistent challenge in northern Nigeria, and this arrest is a step toward curbing the crime.

SP Shisu Lawan Adam, the Command’s spokesman, confirmed these developments in a statement issued to DAILY POST on Thursday. He emphasized the role of public intelligence in enabling these successful operations. CP Haruna A Yahaya commended the officers and urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station. These arrests demonstrate the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order, and they signal a proactive approach to tackling crime in Jigawa State. The continued collaboration between security agencies and the public is expected to yield more results in the fight against criminal activities.
