Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has declared his intention to contest for the Imo State governorship in the 2025 elections, asserting that it is his turn to lead after three fellow PDP stalwarts — Ikedi Ohakim, Emeka Ihedioha, and Hope Uzodimma — have already held office. Speaking in Owerri, the state capital, Anyanwu launched a new grassroots group called the ‘Polling Unit Movement for Sam Daddy,’ a reference to his popular political nickname. He emphasized that all four of them — himself included — were prominent figures in the “old PDP in Imo,” and since the other three have ruled, it is only fair that he now gets the opportunity to serve.
Anyanwu recalled that he, Ohakim, Ihedioha, and Uzodimma were once the core leadership of the PDP in Imo State. “As God may have it, all three of them have ruled over Imo State, and I have remained myself,” he stated. “I have come to take my turn and I believe the other contestants will make space for me.” He acknowledged the competitive nature of Nigerian politics, but remained resolute in his pursuit. “It’s true that power isn’t given, it’s taken. I’ll stay focused on the ball,” he declared, underscoring his determination to win.
The PDP official expressed confidence in the party’s growing strength and unity, highlighting increasing membership and public trust. “Fortunately, the PDP is becoming stronger and more united today. Our number is also growing by thousands,” he said. He insisted that the PDP remains the only party Imo people truly trust and vowed that the party would not let them down. Anyanwu urged members of his new movement to mobilize support, especially in rural communities, to ensure widespread participation and victory.
He also issued a strong warning against electoral malpractice, announcing that the PDP would deploy its own observers to every polling unit. “Listen to me, there’s nothing they know that we do not know. And there’s nothing they possess that we don’t already have,” Anyanwu said. He emphasized that the party is prepared for any challenge and that past electoral tricks would not succeed this time. “We have placed our people around every polling station where they will watch over the voting process and keep the ballots safe until the results are declared in our favor.”
Anyanwu also mentioned other structures supporting his campaign, including the parent body, ‘Divine Mandate,’ and the Mass Movement for Sam Daddy. He called on all supporters to unite and ensure that the people of Imo are fully engaged in the political process. As the 2025 governorship race approaches, Anyanwu’s entry signals a new phase in Imo State politics, with the PDP positioning itself as a formidable force determined to reclaim power.
