Younger Brother of Super Eagles Defender in Talks with Reading Over New Contract

Two Nigerian players, Emmanuel Osho and Miles Obodo, have received their futures at Reading FC following the club’s announcement of its U21 retained and released list after the 2025–2026 season. Emmanuel Osho, a 19-year-old fullback, has been offered a contract extension and is currently in talks with the club to extend his stay at the Madejski Stadium. Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian striker Miles Obodo, also 19, will be released when his contract expires on June 30, 2026.

Emmanuel Osho, the younger brother of Super Eagles defender Gabriel Osho, has shown significant promise since signing his first professional contract with Reading in July 2024. That deal was initially set to last until the end of the 2025–2026 season, but his performances have prompted the club to consider keeping him longer. Gabriel Osho, who graduated from Reading’s academy, earned his first international cap for Nigeria in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin in November 2024, further elevating the family’s profile in Nigerian football.

Osho has already made a strong impression on the senior team, earning twelve call-ups for competitive fixtures. He has featured in eight matches across League One, the EFL Trophy, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup, showcasing his versatility and adaptability as a fullback. His performances were recognized when he was nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for January 2026, highlighting his growing influence in the youth and development setup.

On the other hand, Miles Obodo’s time at Reading is coming to an end. The young striker spent part of the season on loan at non-league side Chichester City, gaining valuable first-team experience. Despite his efforts, the club has decided not to extend his contract, and he will leave when his current deal expires at the end of June 2026. His departure marks the end of his journey with Reading’s youth system.

Both players represent the ongoing connection between Nigerian talent and English football academies. Osho’s potential for a first-team breakthrough continues to draw attention, while Obodo’s experience at Chichester City may open doors elsewhere in the football landscape. As Reading looks ahead to the next season, the club’s focus remains on developing young talent, with Osho now firmly in the spotlight as a player to watch. His continued development could soon see him become a regular in the Royals’ senior squad.
