Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have killed two suspected terrorists in a night ambush in Borno State, marking another significant development in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast. The encounter took place on Saturday evening around 8:45 p.m. in the Kaffin Hausa area, where soldiers from B Company, 144 Battalion (Motorised), successfully executed a pre-planned ambush. The operation was confirmed by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared details on X, highlighting the military’s continued efforts to disrupt terrorist activities in the region.
The ambush was part of broader counter-insurgency measures aimed at dismantling terrorist networks operating in the area. As the troops were in position, they came under fire from suspected insurgents, triggering a brief but intense exchange of gunfire. According to security sources, the engagement lasted only a short time, but it ended with two terrorists neutralised on the spot. Others fled the scene, sustaining gunshot wounds during the confrontation.
Military personnel recovered two AK-47 rifles from the site, which are believed to have belonged to the insurgents. These weapons will be examined for intelligence purposes and to trace possible links to larger militant groups. No casualties were recorded among the Nigerian Army soldiers, underscoring the effectiveness of their tactical planning and execution. However, a wounded individual of unknown identity was spotted during the operation, raising concerns about possible civilian involvement or further escapees.
Authorities have since launched a search and sweep operation in the surrounding areas to track down any remaining suspects and gather additional intelligence. The military remains vigilant, deploying surveillance and reconnaissance efforts to prevent any regrouping or retaliation. This latest incident adds to a series of recent successes by Operation HADIN KAI, which has been instrumental in reclaiming territory and reducing the frequency of attacks in Borno and adjacent states.
The operation reflects the Nigerian military’s sustained commitment to restoring peace and security in the Northeast. As the region continues to face threats from extremist elements, such targeted actions are seen as crucial steps toward long-term stability. With ongoing efforts to strengthen intelligence gathering and community engagement, the military aims to further degrade terrorist capabilities and protect civilian populations. This ambush serves as a reminder of the persistent danger, but also the determined response by security forces to uphold national security.
