Troops Eliminate Nine Terrorists in Katsina and Zamfara Operations

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully neutralised nine terrorists, including two high-ranking kingpins, and recovered four AK-47 rifles and nine motorcycles in coordinated operations across Katsina and Zamfara states. The military operations, conducted between May 2 and May 3, 2026, marked a significant blow to insurgent activities in the North-West region. Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 8 Division, confirmed the details in an official statement, highlighting the effectiveness of ground and air coordination in dismantling terrorist networks.

In Katsina State, soldiers stationed at Forward Operating Base Fudma neutralised four terrorists during a targeted operation. The troops also recovered two AK-47 rifles with two magazines, a quantity of ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, and N153,000 in cash. These items were seized during the engagement, underscoring the operational readiness and intelligence capabilities of the Nigerian Army in the region.

Meanwhile, in Zamfara State, troops from Forward Operating Base Bagega launched a high-intensity operation in Anka Local Government Area. The operation resulted in the neutralisation of seven terrorists, including two notorious kingpins identified as Anaruwa and Gomina. The military’s swift response was bolstered by reinforcement from various combat units and precision airstrikes from the air component, which played a critical role in repelling the insurgents.

As the operation progressed, a second wave of eight terrorists arrived on four motorcycles. The Nigerian Army engaged them immediately, neutralising three and recovering two AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines and seven motorcycles. The following day, on May 3, 2026, troops encountered two more terrorists on motorbikes in the same area and neutralised them on the spot. The military confirmed the loss of one personnel during the operation, a reminder of the dangers faced by soldiers in counter-insurgency efforts.

The successful operations reflect the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the North-West. The recovery of weapons, vehicles, and communication devices demonstrates the disruption of terrorist logistics and command structures. The neutralisation of key figures like Anaruwa and Gomina is expected to weaken insurgent coordination in the region. These developments signal a continued effort to combat terrorism and protect civilians in Katsina and Zamfara states. The military remains vigilant and prepared for further operations to ensure lasting peace.
