Tinubu Urges Ekiti Residents to Re-elect Oyebanji for Second Term in 2026

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has thrown his full weight behind Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s re-election bid in the upcoming June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State, praising the governor’s leadership and urging voters to re-elect him for a second term. Speaking at a massive All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, commended Oyebanji for entering office fully prepared to serve the people with humility, patience, and respect for tradition. The event drew a large crowd of party supporters, allies from various political factions, and citizens from diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds, all united in backing Oyebanji’s campaign.

Tinubu highlighted the governor’s track record of serving the people rather than oppressing them, emphasizing that true leadership is about empowerment and inclusivity. He noted that Ekiti State is fortunate to have Oyebanji at the helm, citing the absence of opposition campaign posters across the state as evidence of widespread public acceptance and support. The President’s endorsement was delivered with symbolic gestures, including handing over Oyebanji to former governors and first ladies, urging them to mobilize support and secure victory for him.

Vice President Shettima, speaking on Tinubu’s behalf, urged Ekiti residents to vote for Oyebanji on Saturday, describing him as a humble and peaceful leader who deserves a second term to continue improving lives. He stressed that Oyebanji’s leadership has been marked by integrity and service, qualities that have earned him deep respect across the state. The rally also featured strong statements from APC leaders, including Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, who described Oyebanji’s popularity as “electrifying,” and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, who said the party’s campaign presence in Ekiti was unmatched, with door-to-door and market-to-market outreach.

APC National Chairman Prof Nentawe Yilwadta reinforced the party’s confidence, stating that their support for Oyebanji is rooted in his genuine connection with the people, not just his position as the ruling party’s candidate. Governor Oyebanji, who appeared visibly elated alongside his wife, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji, and Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, emphasized that his campaign is not based on federal influence but on his performance since 2022. He appealed for a peaceful election and promised that his second term would surpass the achievements of his first three and a half years in office.

The rally underscored the APC’s strong organizational presence and unity in Ekiti, with leaders from across the country rallying behind Oyebanji. As the June 20 election approaches, the momentum behind his re-election campaign continues to grow, with supporters confident that his leadership will bring sustained progress to the state.
