Edo State Security Corps operatives have arrested three suspects accused of vandalizing government properties and using a public school as a hideout for criminal activities. The arrests took place on Monday, June 15, 2026, at approximately 7:06 a.m., during a security operation conducted by the Oluku command of the Corps. The suspects were apprehended inside Oluku Primary School in Ovia North East Local Government Area, a location they allegedly occupied illegally. The operation was carried out to address rising concerns over the misuse of public infrastructure and to restore order in the community.
The Deputy Commandant of the Edo State Security Corps in charge of operations, Richard Balogun, confirmed the arrests during a press briefing in Benin City. He identified the suspects as Daniel Idong, 29, from Cross River State, and two Edo State natives: Destiny Idahosa, 18, and Bright Efosa, 25. According to Balogun, the suspects were arrested for alleged vandalism of government property and armed robbery. Preliminary investigations revealed that they had been using the school premises as a base for their criminal activities, a development he described as deeply disturbing and a direct threat to public safety.
Balogun emphasized that the use of a public school for illegal purposes undermines community trust and endangers students and staff. He noted that he had recently conducted sensitization visits to schools in the area to educate residents and students on the importance of protecting government assets. The suspects are currently being investigated for criminal trespass and acts that threaten public peace. One of them, Destiny Idahosa, confessed to stealing a mobile phone from a commercial bus driver, further implicating the group in petty and violent crimes.
The suspects have been handed over to the Divisional Police Officer of Ekiadolor Police Division for further interrogation and possible prosecution. Balogun assured the public that security agencies remain committed to cracking down on criminal elements and ensuring the safety of public institutions. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security outpost. The arrest underscores the state’s determination to protect public property and maintain law and order in communities across Edo State. This incident highlights the need for continued collaboration between security forces and local communities to prevent the misuse of public spaces for criminal purposes.
