The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State has dismissed claims of a leadership vacuum, urging the public to ignore misinformation and remain focused on the party’s 2027 electoral ambitions. In a statement released on Friday, PDP Publicity Secretary Chief Kingsley Akpos Oturubo affirmed that the party’s leadership, headed by Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, is legally validated and fully operational. He emphasized that the Supreme Court’s judgment on April 30, 2026, resolved the protracted leadership dispute by invalidating the unconstitutional Ibadan Convention that had produced the Aminu Turaki-led faction.
Oturubo called on aspirants seeking to contest under the PDP banner to continue their electioneering campaigns without fear or hesitation. “There is no cause for alarm,” he stated, reiterating the party’s commitment to fielding candidates across all electoral levels—governorship, National Assembly, and State House of Assembly—with confidence in victory. He noted that the Supreme Court’s decision effectively ended the factional crisis that had plagued the party, restoring unity and legal clarity to its leadership structure.
The statement highlighted that Senator Sam Anyanwu and three others were suspended for one month during the PDP’s 608th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting on November 1, 2025. The suspension expired on December 1, 2025, after which they were appointed to the Caretaker National Working Committee on December 8, 2025. This committee played a key role in organizing the March 2026 convention, which INEC officially recognized as the legitimate platform for electing the current leadership under Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed.
Oturubo urged Deltans to verify the party’s legitimacy by visiting the INEC portal, where the current leadership is officially listed. He also clarified that any individuals or groups claiming to represent the Board of Trustees (BoT) are not affiliated with the legally constituted party organs. The PDP’s structure includes a properly formed National Executive Committee, with the BoT led by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and the NWC led by Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed.
The party extended an open invitation to former members who left during the leadership crisis, calling on them to return and help rebuild the party. “Let us join hands together to rebuild the Party,” Oturubo said, stressing that the PDP has overcome internal challenges and is now fully geared for the 2027 elections. With legal clarity restored and internal unity reaffirmed, the PDP is positioning itself as a strong contender in the upcoming electoral landscape.
