So Safe Corps Arrests Three Suspected Cultists, Recovers Firearm in Ogun State

Operatives of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) arrested three suspected cult members and recovered a firearm in Ijagun town, Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area, on Sunday. The suspects—identified as Samuel, Dapo, and Favour—were apprehended around 4 p.m. at Emmanuel Villa, Abapawa, following credible intelligence about cultist activities in the area. The operation was swift and intelligence-driven, showcasing the corps’ commitment to maintaining security and curbing violent crime in the state.

Commander Soji Ganzallo, the State Commander of So-Safe Corps, confirmed the arrest through a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations, ACC Adegunwa Adegbuyi. He explained that operatives responded immediately to the intelligence, conducting a targeted security operation that led to the successful capture of the suspects. During the raid, one firearm was seized and secured as evidence for legal proceedings.

The three suspects were taken into custody and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force at Igbeba for further investigation, interrogation, and necessary legal action. The recovered firearm was also transferred to police authorities as an exhibit linked to the case. This collaborative effort between So-Safe Corps and the police highlights ongoing efforts to strengthen community safety and combat armed criminality.

Ganzallo praised the operatives for their professionalism, vigilance, and quick response, emphasizing that such operations are critical in dismantling cult networks and preventing violence. He reiterated the corps’ zero-tolerance policy towards cultism, illegal arms possession, and other forms of organized crime in Ogun State. The commander urged residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activities or movements within their communities.

He stressed the importance of public cooperation in ensuring lasting peace and security, noting that credible information from citizens plays a vital role in preempting criminal acts. By working together, communities can help prevent the escalation of violence and support law enforcement agencies in their duties. The incident underscores the growing threat of cultism and armed robbery in parts of the state, particularly in rural towns like Ijagun.

As Ogun State continues to face challenges related to youth unemployment and insecurity, initiatives like those led by So-Safe Corps remain essential in restoring public confidence. The arrest of these suspects sends a strong message that no part of the state is beyond the reach of justice. Authorities expect more such operations to follow, with continued emphasis on intelligence gathering and community engagement. This development reinforces the government’s resolve to create safer environments for all Nigerians, especially in vulnerable communities.
