Operatives of the Sagamu Division of the Ogun State Police Command have successfully dismantled a suspected cattle theft syndicate and recovered six stolen cows in the Maskoli area of Sagamu Local Government Area. The operation, which took place following a distress call on Saturday, led to the arrest of two suspects, Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37. Police also seized a blue Nissan Cabster bus believed to have been used by the syndicate for their criminal activities. The swift response by law enforcement disrupted the theft operation and prevented further losses to local farmers.
The police action was triggered after a report was received that seven cows were stolen from a cow yard in Maskoli. Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives immediately mobilized and began coordinated patrols along key exit routes, particularly the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Expressway. During surveillance, the officers intercepted suspicious vehicles linked to the suspected thieves. Their timely intervention frustrated the criminal operation, resulting in the arrest of the two suspects and the recovery of six of the seven stolen cows.
DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the details to DAILY POST on Tuesday. He explained that the abandoned blue Nissan Cabster bus was seized as evidence and is being used to trace other members of the syndicate. Babaseyi emphasized that the investigation remains active, with authorities working to locate and apprehend the remaining suspect and recover the one cow still unaccounted for. He also stressed that all those found involved in the crime will face prosecution under the law.
The police have urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security efforts by reporting any suspicious activities or individuals. Babaseyi highlighted that community cooperation is vital in curbing cattle rustling and other criminal acts in the area.
