Armed robbery suspects arrested in Delta State as police recover pump action gun, live cartridge, and daggers during stop-and-search operation at Second Niger Bridge. The arrest, made on 27 May 2026, marks another significant success for the Delta State Police Command in its ongoing efforts to combat crime along critical transportation corridors.
Operatives from the Department of Operations (DOPS) Buffalo Team, stationed at the Second Niger Bridge, intercepted an unregistered blue Hijet Cargo mini bus traveling from Anambra State into Delta State. The vehicle’s occupants reportedly tried to dissuade officers from conducting a search, even threatening to record the officers if the inspection proceeded. Despite the intimidation, the police remained professional and carried out a thorough search of the vehicle.
During the search, officers recovered a pump action gun loaded with one live cartridge, along with two daggers. These items were described as incriminating exhibits, and their possession raises serious concerns about the suspects’ intentions. The two men arrested were identified as Ugo Chukwu Kendirim, 25, and Odo Jude, 27, both of whom are now in police custody.
Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday. He emphasized that the operation was part of a targeted stop-and-search initiative aimed at curbing criminal activities along major transit routes. The police have launched a preliminary investigation to determine how the suspects came into possession of the weapons and whether they are linked to any ongoing criminal cases or previous incidents.
The arrest underscores the importance of proactive policing in high-risk areas, particularly around major bridges and border points where criminals often attempt to cross state lines undetected. The Second Niger Bridge remains a key point for both legitimate trade and illicit movements, making it a priority for security operations.
Police authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, especially vehicles without proper registration or individuals exhibiting signs of criminal intent. The recovery of firearms and weapons in such operations highlights the persistent threat of armed robbery in the region.
This incident adds to a growing list of successful operations by the Delta State Police Command, reinforcing their commitment to public safety. As investigations continue, authorities are expected to release further details on the suspects’ backgrounds and potential connections to other criminal networks. The arrest serves as a warning to would-be offenders that law enforcement remains active and determined to restore order.
