Chief Samson Nnamani has declared himself the authentic governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Enugu State, following a series of contested primary elections held across the state. The declaration comes amid confusion over multiple primaries that produced different winners, including Chief Uche Nnaji and Chief Dona Nwogbo, each claiming legitimacy. Nnamani insists his victory on Sunday, 24th May 2026, was lawful and conducted under the supervision of officials from Abuja and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. He emphasized that the electoral panel officially declared him the winner, affirming the credibility of his candidacy.
Speaking through Dr. Buchi Nnaji, his Media Director and Spokesperson, Nnamani dismissed claims of a factional split within the PDP, stating that the Supreme Court had already resolved the matter. He further rejected allegations that he had been suspended by another faction, calling the suspension a desperate move by opponents seeking to undermine his campaign. “You said you suspended somebody, and on the day you conducted what you called a primary, where you did your kangaroo election, you recognized the same person you suspended and counted votes for him,” Nnaji stated, highlighting the inconsistency in the actions of rival factions.
Nnamani’s campaign team stressed that he was the only candidate who actively mobilized PDP members across all 17 local government areas of Enugu State. They claimed the other candidates avoided direct participation in the electoral process, resorting instead to what they described as fraudulent methods to gain recognition. “Most of the things we hear are rumours,” Nnaji added, urging the public to remain informed and not be misled by misinformation. He also warned against attempts to silence opposition voices within the party, asserting that the PDP remains strong and united.
The primary election that produced Nnamani as the flagbearer was conducted with oversight from federal officials and INEC representatives, according to the spokesperson. This, he said, underscores the transparency and legitimacy of the process. Nnamani’s campaign platform focuses on reviewing and removing policies that hinder the economic survival, social advancement, and overall wellbeing of Enugu State citizens. He promises a government that will prioritize development, accountability, and inclusive governance if elected.
As the 2026 governorship race heats up, Nnamani’s claim to legitimacy is expected to influence party dynamics and voter perceptions in Enugu State. The coming weeks will likely see further legal and political challenges, but Nnamani remains confident in his position as the rightful PDP candidate. His declaration marks a significant moment in the state’s political landscape, setting the stage for a decisive electoral contest.
