Police Arrest Suspected Bandit Informant Over Threats and N10 Million Extortion in Katsina

A 28-year-old man has been arrested by the Katsina State Police Command for allegedly acting as an informant for bandits, following a report of threats and extortion against a resident. The suspect, identified as Usman Isah, was apprehended after police received a complaint on April 9, 2026, about threatening phone calls demanding a ransom of N10 million. The victim, who feared for his life, reported that the callers threatened to kill him if he did not pay the demanded sum, prompting immediate police action.

Detectives from the Katsina State Police Command swiftly launched an investigation and arrested Usman Isah in connection with the crime. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the offence and revealed that he had conspired with his brother, whose name has been withheld, to carry out the threats. He also admitted to being involved in similar criminal activities in the past, indicating a pattern of unlawful behaviour.

In addition to the suspect’s confession, police recovered charms believed to have been used to support his illegal activities. These items are now part of the evidence being compiled for prosecution. The police have stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice, who remains at large. The suspect in custody will be formally charged to court once the investigation is fully concluded.

The Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, CP Ali Umar Fage, has directed officers to intensify operations aimed at tracking down the remaining suspect. He emphasized that the command remains committed to dismantling networks that support banditry and other criminal activities in the state. CP Fage warned that anyone found aiding or collaborating with bandits will face the full force of the law.

The police have also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines. This case highlights the increasing role of informants and collaborators in criminal networks, and the police’s determination to disrupt such activities. As security operations continue, residents are encouraged to cooperate with authorities to ensure safer communities across Katsina State.
