The All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended the timelines for the sale and submission of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the 2027 General Elections, following a decision by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) during a meeting held in Abuja on Thursday. The move aims to accommodate aspirants and align with the national public holiday observed on Friday, May 1, 2026. The new deadline for the sale of forms is now midnight on Monday, May 4, 2026, while the submission of completed forms and supporting documents will close at midnight on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
This adjustment comes after the initial schedule, which had set the sale period from Saturday, April 25 to Saturday, May 2, 2026, with submissions due by Monday, May 4, 2026. The change reflects the party’s effort to ensure inclusivity and fairness in the nomination process, particularly given the high level of interest from potential candidates across the country. The APC leadership acknowledged that the public holiday disrupted the original timeline and made it difficult for many aspirants to complete the process within the initial window.
Durosinmi Meseko, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, confirmed the extension during a press briefing following the NWC meeting. He emphasized that the decision was made to ensure that all interested individuals, including those in remote areas or with limited access to information, have sufficient time to participate. Meseko also noted that the party remains committed to transparency and adherence to its internal guidelines for candidate selection.
The extension is expected to ease logistical challenges for aspirants, especially those who may have faced difficulties in obtaining forms or gathering required documentation before the previous deadline. It also allows for better coordination among party structures at the state and local levels, ensuring that all forms are processed efficiently. The APC has maintained its position that the nomination process will be conducted in line with party regulations and democratic principles.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, the APC’s decision to extend the nomination period underscores its focus on broad participation and organizational preparedness. The party continues to prepare for the upcoming electoral cycle, with various structures already in place to manage candidate vetting and selection. This move is likely to be welcomed by many political aspirants who had expressed concerns about the tight initial schedule.
Looking ahead, the extended timeline provides a crucial opportunity for more Nigerians to formally enter the race for political office, reinforcing the party’s commitment to inclusive and competitive democracy.
