The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspected cultists and recovered firearms and ammunition during a targeted operation in Ajanmgbadi, Ojo Local Government Area, on June 2, 2026. The suspects, identified as Emmanuel Nwokolo (also known as Oblo), Ayola Israel (popularly called Essy Pawpaw), Ebuka Nnamdi, and Chinedu Okafor, were apprehended at a hotel in the area following intelligence gathered by police operatives. The arrest comes amid heightened security efforts to curb cult-related violence and armed robbery in the region. Police stated that the suspects are linked to the Aiye Confraternity, a notorious cult group known for violent crimes across Lagos.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the suspects were arrested after intelligence pointed to their involvement in a series of violent incidents in Ajanmgbadi and surrounding communities. Preliminary investigations revealed that the group had been terrorising residents through killings and other criminal activities. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to being members of the Aiye Confraternity and admitted to participating in acts of violence that had created fear among local residents. The confessions were supported by evidence recovered during the operation.
One of the most significant findings was a video allegedly showing the killing of unidentified individuals, which was retrieved from one of the suspects’ mobile phones. This digital evidence is expected to play a key role in the ongoing investigation. Police also recovered two locally fabricated pistols, one revolver pistol, and 13 live cartridges from the suspects’ possession. These weapons are believed to have been used in the commission of their criminal acts, including armed robberies and assassinations.
The Lagos State Police Command emphasized that the operation was part of a broader strategy to dismantle cult networks and restore peace in high-risk areas. Investigations are still ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ criminal activities and to identify other members of the Aiye Confraternity operating in the region. The command also confirmed that the suspects will be charged to court once the investigation is complete. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
This arrest underscores the police’s commitment to cracking down on armed cultism and ensuring public safety in Lagos. As security agencies intensify their operations, communities are hopeful that such actions will lead to a lasting reduction in violent crime. The case is expected to send a strong message to other criminal elements operating under the guise of cult affiliations.
