Osun Police Arrest Man Over Alleged Murder of Mother

The Osun State Police Command has arrested Taye Kasali, a 32-year-old man, over the alleged murder of his mother, Kudirat Kasali, whose remains were recovered from a shallow grave on a family farm in the state. The arrest followed an intelligence-led investigation that began after reports emerged on September 1, 2026, that both Kudirat and her son had gone missing. Police operatives from the Bode-Osi Division launched an immediate probe into the disappearance, which led to the suspect’s apprehension on September 7, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, through spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, Taye confessed to killing his mother on August 31, 2026. He reportedly admitted to slitting her throat with a machete after she allegedly called him “mad” and threatened to lease out the family farmland, which he described as the primary source of livelihood for the household. The confession prompted the suspect to lead investigators to the burial site, where the remains of Kudirat Kasali were discovered and recovered.

The machete used in the alleged crime was also seized and retained as evidence for further forensic examination. The police command emphasized that the suspect is currently undergoing thorough interrogation and will be charged to court once the investigation is complete. CP Zungura assured the public that all legal procedures would be strictly followed to ensure justice is served.

This case has sparked concern among residents of the area, highlighting the need for stronger community vigilance and mental health awareness. The incident underscores how domestic disputes, when left unresolved, can escalate into violent crimes. Authorities have urged families to address conflicts early and seek professional help when necessary to prevent similar tragedies.

As the investigation continues, the Osun State Police Command remains committed to maintaining peace and security across the state. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of resolving family disagreements peacefully and seeking lawful redress when tensions rise. Justice for Kudirat Kasali is expected to be delivered in due course, as the legal process unfolds.
