Osun Killings: Police Deploy Tactical Teams to Restore Order

Cult-related violence has prompted the Osun State Police Command to deploy tactical teams to the Oke-Baale area of Osogbo, following a series of deadly clashes in the state capital. The move comes after two separate incidents on October 2 and October 4, 2026, that left multiple people injured and two men dead. The police confirmed the deployment was ordered by Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, as part of efforts to restore peace and prevent further bloodshed.

On October 2, a violent clash erupted around the Owo-Eba area of Osogbo, resulting in the deaths of Adebayo Taoreed, known as “Small Rugged,” and Oluwaseyi Daniel, popularly called “OSHA.” Both were shot during the incident, which also left several others with gunshot injuries. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the violence have since commenced under the supervision of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The police are working to identify all individuals involved and trace the source of the weapons used.

Just two days later, on Sunday, October 4, suspected cultists invaded the Arowomole area, attacking Rasak Wahab, known as “Ojo Iku.” He was shot and immediately evacuated to a hospital where he is currently receiving medical treatment and responding well to care. The police stated that intelligence-led operations are now being conducted across high-risk zones, targeting cult members, criminal hideouts, and areas linked to illegal activities.

CP Ibrahim Zungura described the recent attacks as deeply disturbing and emphasized that the security situation remains under control. Tactical teams have been instructed to remain stationed in Oke-Baale until normalcy is fully restored. Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical commanders have also been directed to intensify patrols and strengthen intelligence gathering to preempt future violence.

The Osun State Police Command is urging parents, community leaders, and residents to report any suspicious movements, cult gatherings, or potential criminal hideouts. They warned that anyone found supporting or sponsoring cult activities will face full legal consequences. The police reassured the public that they are actively managing the situation and advised citizens to avoid spreading unverified information. Residents are encouraged to continue with their lawful daily activities while remaining vigilant.

This heightened security response reflects the government’s commitment to addressing rising insecurity in urban centers. As investigations continue, authorities hope to dismantle cult networks and bring lasting peace to Osogbo and its surrounding communities.
