One person has died and three others were seriously injured in a fatal road crash involving a Lexus Jeep 350 along the Coastal Road inward Eko Hotel in Lagos on Friday. The incident, which occurred earlier in the day, involved the vehicle with registration number LSD 554 KV. Preliminary reports from security sources indicate that the driver lost control of the car before it collided violently with a roadside pole and overturned, leading to the tragic outcome.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the details in an official statement, noting that its operatives were monitoring traffic in the area when the accident happened. Responding swiftly, LASTMA officers secured the scene to prevent further danger and coordinated emergency response efforts. With the help of bystanders, the three injured individuals were rescued from the wreckage and rushed to Duck-Yard Hospital within the Military Zone for immediate medical attention.
Security personnel from Victoria Island also arrived at the scene to provide reinforcement and assist in managing the situation. The mangled Lexus was later removed from the carriageway by LASTMA officials to avoid any secondary collisions and to restore normal traffic flow along the busy route. Emergency and investigative procedures were carried out by relevant agencies to determine the exact cause of the crash and ensure safety protocols were followed.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and reiterated the importance of safe driving practices. He urged all motorists to maintain appropriate speeds, stay alert, and strictly adhere to traffic regulations. “Excessive speed, reckless driving and loss of vehicular control could have devastating and irreversible consequences for motorists and other road users,” Bakare-Oki warned during his statement.
He also encouraged the public to report any road emergencies—including crashes, breakdowns, or obstructions—via LASTMA’s toll-free short code to enable prompt intervention. This proactive approach, according to the agency, is crucial in minimizing risks and saving lives on Nigerian roads. As traffic continues to increase in Lagos, incidents like this underscore the need for constant vigilance and adherence to road safety measures. The tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers posed by careless driving and the importance of responsible behavior behind the wheel.
