Ogun APC House of Reps Primaries Held Peacefully with Massive Voter Turnout

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State successfully conducted its House of Representatives direct primaries across all 20 local government areas on Saturday, in a peaceful, transparent, and well-organised exercise that earned widespread praise from party leaders, stakeholders, and government officials. The event, held simultaneously in wards across the state, saw high voter turnout, orderly accreditation, and smooth voting processes, with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials and returning officers present at various polling centres to ensure credibility. The primaries were marked by calmness and unity, reflecting the party’s commitment to internal democracy and fair competition.

In Sagamu Local Government’s Ward 3, Taofeek Sokoya, Chairman of the Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN), confirmed that Funmi Afuwape emerged victorious in the Remo Federal Constituency race. “The exercise was peaceful and well-organised. Hon. Funmi Afuwape won clearly, and we believe she will represent us well,” Sokoya stated. Similarly, in Opeji Ward, Odeda Local Government, under the Abeokuta North/Obafemi-Owode Federal Constituency, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu cast his vote, while Oba Ward 07 in Obafemi-Owode and areas in Abeokuta South also recorded smooth and hitch-free processes.

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Iziaq Kunle Salako, participated in the primary at Ayetoro 2 Ward 3, Yewa North Local Government. In the same area, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, who had been endorsed by party leaders as the APC consensus candidate for Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency, was affirmed by party members through a unanimous voice vote without any dissent. Ward 16 in Abeokuta North Local Government witnessed a massive turnout, while voters at Imososi Methodist School in Ago-Iwoye, Ijebu North, described the atmosphere as peaceful and hopeful.

In Ifo Local Government, Adijat Motunrayo Adeleye was declared the winner of the Okearo/Ibaragun/Robinyan Ward 7 APC primary, securing the party’s ticket for the Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency. APC consensus governorship candidate in Ogun State, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, voted at Ilaro Ward 1 in Yewa South Local Government, where Oluwatoyin Taiwo was overwhelmingly elected as the party’s candidate for Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency. “I participated in the APC House of Representatives Direct Primary. We overwhelmingly elected Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo. APC is setting the pace for peaceful internal democracy,” Adeola said.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun commended party members and stakeholders for their discipline, loyalty, and commitment during the exercise. He noted that the successful conduct of the House of Representatives primary marks the beginning of a series of upcoming party primaries for the Senate, House of Assembly, governorship, and presidential positions. The governor also appreciated INEC officials, returning officers, and security agencies for their roles in ensuring a peaceful and inclusive process. He described Funmi Afuwape’s emergence as a testament to her leadership, experience, and dedication to public service, expressing confidence in her ability to represent the Remo Federal Constituency effectively.

Governor Abiodun reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to internal democracy, peaceful engagement, and progressive ideals aimed at fostering unity, development, and good governance in Ogun State.
