The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially declared the winners of its senatorial primary elections in Abia State, setting the stage for the party’s 2027 general election campaign in the state. Jude Udeachara emerged victorious in Abia North, Bob Ogu secured the Abia Central ticket, and Chinyere Onuoha won in Abia South. The results were announced at the PDP state office in Umuahia, with party officials confirming the process was conducted fairly and without major disruptions. The primary was held through consensus, according to the Chairman of the PDP Senatorial Election Committee, Ikenna Onuoha.
Jude Udeachara, who previously contested as the PDP candidate for the House of Representatives in 2019, polled 39,740 votes to clinch the Abia North senatorial ticket. His strong performance reflects his established political presence in the region and the party’s confidence in his ability to represent the constituency in the next Senate. Udeachara’s victory underscores the PDP’s strategy of fielding experienced candidates with proven electoral appeal.
In Abia Central, Bob Ogu, a former Commissioner for Works under the administration of ex-Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, secured the senatorial nomination with 18,901 votes. His appointment to a key government position in the past has positioned him as a familiar and trusted figure within the party and among voters in the central senatorial district. His selection is seen as a move to leverage his administrative experience and grassroots connections.
Chinyere Onuoha won the Abia South senatorial ticket with 33,611 votes, demonstrating strong support from party members and stakeholders in the region. Her victory marks a significant step in her political career and highlights the PDP’s commitment to gender inclusivity in its candidate selection process. Onuoha’s win is expected to energize female voters and youth groups within the party’s structure.
Ikenna Onuoha, the Chairman of the Senatorial Election Committee, emphasized that the primary was conducted peacefully and in accordance with party guidelines. He praised the participants for their cooperation and stated that the consensus-driven approach ensured unity and minimized internal conflicts. Abraham Amah, the Chairman of the PDP in Abia State, addressed the gathering before the results were announced, reiterating the party’s determination to win the 2027 elections. He called on all members to remain united and focused on the common goal of delivering victory for the PDP in Abia.
With the senatorial candidates now officially declared, the PDP in Abia State is shifting focus to campaign preparation, voter mobilization, and policy development ahead of the next general election. The party’s leadership believes these selections will strengthen its chances of regaining political ground in the state. As Nigeria approaches the 2027 electoral cycle, the PDP’s Abia State chapter is positioning itself as a formidable force in the political landscape.
