NNPP Reflects on Challenging Past Three Years Amid Political Struggles

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has urged its members nationwide to stay united and focused ahead of the 2027 general elections, despite the party’s struggles since the 2023 polls. The call was made by the party’s National Secretary, Dipo Olayoku, during the 11th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Saturday. Olayoku emphasized that the party has faced significant challenges, including the defection of several elected officials and appointees who were initially brought into office under the NNPP banner. He described the past three years as particularly difficult for the party, with many key figures leaving for political realignment.

Olayoku acknowledged the pain of losing leaders who were once part of the party’s electoral success. “All our elected members and appointees in government, whom we laboured to bring into office, have left in the name of political realignment,” he said during the NEC session. Despite these setbacks, he stressed that the party must not lose hope or momentum. Instead, he called on members to remain committed to rebuilding and strengthening the party’s foundation for future electoral victories.

The NEC meeting marked the conclusion of a series of internal political activities that began at the ward level and extended to the state level. These efforts were designed to reorganize the party, re-energize its grassroots structure, and prepare for the 2027 elections. Olayoku highlighted that the process was crucial for ensuring that the NNPP emerges stronger and more cohesive in the next electoral cycle. He urged members to actively participate in party-building initiatives and to avoid internal conflicts that could weaken their collective mission.

The NNPP, which has been a key player in Nigeria’s political landscape, is seeking to regain its footing after the 2023 elections, where it faced significant losses and leadership instability. The party’s leadership believes that with renewed focus and unity, it can reposition itself as a credible alternative in Nigeria’s democratic space. Olayoku’s message was clear: the road to recovery is not easy, but it is necessary.

As the party moves forward, it will rely heavily on its grassroots network and the commitment of its members to rebuild trust and credibility. The 2027 elections will be a critical test of the NNPP’s resilience and organizational strength. With preparations now underway, the party aims to present a united front and a compelling vision for Nigeria’s future. The coming years will determine whether the NNPP can transform its current challenges into a foundation for long-term political success.
