A Nigerian researcher in the United States, Oluwaseyi Amisu, has secured a combined $63,000 in project support to develop and assess the commercial potential of an energy technology.
The project was designed to improve the integration of renewable energy into microgrid systems.
Amisu, an Engineering researcher and doctoral student in Energy Science and Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is leading the development and commercialisation of the artificial intelligence-driven hybrid microgrid control system designed to coordinate renewable energy sources, battery storage and other power resources to meet changing energy demands.
The project received $13,000 through the Tennessee Technology Advancement Consortium Proof-of-Concept programme to support its early-stage development and validation, after which Launch Tennessee listed Amisu among its 2026 Proof-of-Concept awardees.
According to a statement obtained by Diaspora Tales on Thursday, Amisu and his team progressed to the US National Science Foundation’s National I-Corps programme, receiving an additional $50,000 in project support to investigate the technology’s commercial potential.
