Nenadi Leads Labour Party, Clarifies No Official Social Media Accounts Operated

The Labour Party has officially confirmed it does not currently operate any active social media accounts, warning the public against a fraudulent X account falsely claiming to represent the party. The account, named “LABOUR PARTY (LP)NIG” with the handle @LabourpartyNGR_, is being operated by Julius Abure and his associates, according to the party’s leadership. In a statement issued by Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the Interim National Chairman, the party said the account is spreading false information under its name and is not affiliated with the Labour Party in any way.

The party revealed that this is not the first time it has disowned the account. In February, it had already issued a disclaimer about the same account, which was then operated under a different name and handle. However, the operators have since changed the account’s name and handle in an attempt to deceive the public. The Labour Party emphasized that it has no official social media presence for public communication at this time, despite having previously maintained accounts on Facebook and X.

The party’s only known social media accounts, which are currently inactive, are Facebook: Labour Party-Nig (with approximately 12,000 followers) and X: LabourPartyNG (with approximately 837,000 followers). The Labour Party has formally petitioned the Nigerian Police to recover its official X account, LabourPartyNG, which is currently under the control of the former party leadership. The investigation is ongoing, and the party confirmed that Barr. Julius Abure and Alhaji Umar Farouk are cooperating with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department, providing information about their unauthorized use of the party’s digital platforms.

The Labour Party stressed that all official communications must come from authorized press statements issued by the Office of the Interim National Chairman. Any future changes to the party’s communication structure will be announced formally. The public is urged to ignore any content from the fraudulent account @LabourpartyNGR_ and any posts currently circulating on LabourPartyNG. This includes a recent post falsely claiming the party is expecting the return of Mr. Peter Obi and Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, which the party says is entirely unauthorized and does not reflect its official stance.

As the investigation progresses, the Labour Party remains committed to restoring its digital presence and ensuring transparency in its communications. The party’s actions underscore the growing importance of verifying information online, especially during political transitions and leadership changes. The public can expect an official update once the investigation concludes and the party’s accounts are recovered.
